Ongoing network enhancement

The new csl mobile communications brand combines the best of two major networks – PCCW-HKT mobile service and one2free.

This has resulted in greater coverage and the lion’s share of Hong Kong’s mobile communications spectrum, which includes 900MHz, 1800MHz and 2600MHz.

All this, added to ownership of a 1,000Mbps optical-fiber terrestrial network⁺ for faster connectivity between the Internet and mobile radio masts, amounts to a superfast and stable mobile data experience, regardless of simultaneous user numbers.

csl has become the first and only mobile network provider to offer LTE-A 300Mbps* service in Hong Kong. The new network covers major districts across New Territories. This capability is complemented by more than 15,000 Wi-Fi hotspots – some offering speeds up to 1,000Mbps^ – thereby providing csl customers with a superior overall mobile data experience.

However, actual speed experienced by a customer will be considerably less than the network specifications, and affected by customer’s device, transmission technology, individual network and software used, network configuration, coverage, usage level, international bandwidth and other extraneous factors.

⁺1,000Mbps is the network specification for an internal optical-fiber network and is different from actual speeds experienced by customers.

^{^}Wi-Fi 1,000Mbps is the network specification for 802.11ac, applicable only to certain csl Wi-Fi hotspots at a limited number of locations. Actual speeds experienced by customers using such hotspots are considerably less than the network specifications and will be affected by user’s mobile device (eg number of a device’s internal antennae), network coverage, international bandwidth and other extraneous factors.
